I had a lump in my throat just at the thought of reexperiencing that night again. I listened to the video yesterday and will do so again today, uninterrupted this time.
I thought I had processed it all while I was there and soon after coming home. But, I’ve realized life is a great distraction. And my feelings and thoughts have been stirred up again. Made fresh again.
It was an amazing experience. Our passions were reignited. Life must never get in the way of that. Thank you for all you have shared, and for sharing your truth!
Thank you, Yael, for writing about this incredible powerful session. Hearing Andrea Little Mason speak and honor black women was truly, deeply a gift and a charge. “YOU are the answer that no one else can give.” Reading your words and listening to the recording again brought me right back. I am forever grateful that I was able to be there to experience it. Lots of love and onward! <3
This is an awesome reminder. Even for me, who is a busy homeschool mom of 3 and biz owner. I need to make time to rest and recover.
I wish we could get back to a place where a woman, postpartum, was honored for just having brought forth life, encouraged to rest, and was cared for by the women in her family and community. This used to be called “laying in” and would last for weeks.
Thank goodness for postpartum doulas who can “take the place” of the birthing woman’s now busy community and help her get the rest her body and mind need.
Thank you so much for these wise words! Yes to “laying in”! Yes to honoring the woman who has recently “brought forth life”! How can we create strong communities of compassionate, world-changing humans if postpartum is treated like just another day & no big deal? Let’s keep being the ones to push this message forward. Rest! Rest Black mother, REST!

I’m still trying to find words for this night.
Thank you Yael, for tagging me in these posts.

This time, I will allow myself to process.
